Chinese government continues crackdown on VPNs

Chinese police have increased their crackdown on the use of virtual private networks (VPN). An ongoing crusade that is planned to run until March 31, 2018 was reported by calvinayre.com in January who also refer to a 14 month campaign. The government’s efforts are important to all forms of free information flow into and out of the communist country whether for free enterprise, political dissent, or to feed the seemingly insatiable gambling appetites of the Chinese people.

The Chinese government likes to know everything about what its citizens do online. They also like to control which websites Chinese people can visit. To get around that, many people in China use VPNs to surf anonymously and make it appear as if they are located somewhere else. Lotteries are the only legal gambling in the country outside of Macau and are controlled by the government. In the U.S. and Canada, VPNs are most commonly used to escape school network restrictions or to watch Netflix shows that are otherwise unavailable in one country or the other.

According to a Chinese government document available online, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has decided to “clean up” the communications infrastructure in China to rid it of “disorderly development”, standardize market order, and strengthen security. Many, according to a BBC report in August, see it as a way to rid the state-owned China Telecom of increasing competition in order to preserve profits. The company, which provides a large share of revenues to the government, posted US$775 million in profits for the first quarter of 2017 which indicates expected profit for the year of about US$3 billion. In the case of many state-owned Chinese  companies the government is entitled to 50% of profits.

For gamblers, it means they will only be able to buy government approved VPN apps, which of course, means they aren’t “private” at all. And while operators such as Bet365 will not likely restrict access to people in China, bettors may think twice before exposing their activities to VPN providers “in bed” with the Chinese government.

One VPN developer interviewed by the BBC told them that he doesn’t expect the government to shut down all VPNs even though they have the technology to do it. He believes that since they can “see” who is using them and could flip a kill switch at any time, they are more interested in controlling than closing.

PGA Tour to crack down on golf betting

In an effort to protect its events from potentially nefarious outside influences, yesterday saw the PGA Tour announce that it will implement its new Integrity Program from next year to considerably extend its prohibition on golf betting.

Players have long been forbidden from wagering on PGA Tour events but the professional golf tour organizer explained that its new policy, which is to come into force from January 1, is to extend this proscription to support teams, volunteers and tournament staff as well as well as to members of its policy board.

By instituting its Integrity Program, the PGA Tour declared that it aims to “maintain integrity and prevent and mitigate betting-related corruption in PGA Tour competitions” so as to protect “the welfare of the players and others involved” and ensure that its events always reflect “the best efforts of the players”. It stated that the new regime is to also encompass “clear policies and regulations” alongside “ongoing education and training” together with “effective and consistent monitoring and enforcement functions”.

As part of the roll-out of its Integrity Program, the PGA Tour explained that it has engaged British sports integrity services innovator Genius Sports Group Limited to provide it with a bet monitoring system that will track wagering patterns and spot any suspicious trends. The pair is to moreover debut an educational program across all six of its professional tours that has been designed to help players, caddies and officials “identify, resist and report incidents of potential betting corruption”.

“The bedrock of PGA Tour competitions are the inherent values of golf and the honesty and integrity of our members,” read a statement from Jay Monahan, Commissioner for the PGA Tour. “We recognize, however, that no sport is fully immune from the potential influence of gambling. So, we felt it was important to move forward with an Integrity Program to further protect our competition from betting-related issues. Genius Sports [Group Limited] will provide essential support as we roll out the program across the entire PGA Tour.”

Yggdrasil to release new Jungle Books slot Sept. 20

On September 20th, mobile and online casino games developer Yggdrasil Gaming will release its new slot, Jungle Books, based on Rudyard Kipling’s, The Jungle Book, a collection of stories about Mowgli, an abandoned child raised by wolves and his friends.

Just like the famous stories, Yggdrasil’s Jungle Books will take players on an exciting journey through the jungle. There they will be introduced to Fusion Realms, a ground-breaking new mechanic, which effortlessly mixes many different features and reel structures into a single frame.

Yggdrasil’s breakthrough technology allows the game’s five adventure-seeking characters to roam at will through numerous reel sets and individual feature combinations. Each character is the host of their own realm but they also have the ability to be guests in other character’s realms, creating exciting feature combinations. While in their own realm, characters reward players with two bonus features. The new slot Jungle Books showcases 45 possible feature combinations, which easily makes it Yggdrasil’s biggest and most exciting yet. Players will want to combine host and guest features for the biggest result.

The 5 reel, 58-68 payline slots’ five characters include Mowgli, who is raised in the jungle by wolves, Shere Khan the tiger, Bagheera the black panther, Baloo the bear and Kaa the python. Each of the five characters has two individual bonus features. Each character acts as host in their own specific realm where both of their features are active. Each of the characters takes its turn hosting the reels throughout the game.

At any point, the host’s realm can be joined by other characters, and when they do, they bring one of their bonus features with them. Once a guest arrives, it remains in the hosts’ realm for a minimum of 3 spins. Periodically, the realms change and the host of the last realm visited will become a guest in the new realm. If there is a guest present when the hosts and realms change, the new realm has to be a different character’s not the current guests.

Jungle Books will launch on Yggdrasil’s new and improved HTML client framework iSense2.0+ and can be played on all compatible devices including tablets, notebooks and smartphones.

New zombie themed virtual reality experience coming to MGM Grand

Gaming venues located in Las Vegas are opting for new variants of gambling in order to attract millennials. Skill-based games have taken the forefront as the latest additions to casinos in Sin City and now it seems a new first is coming to the area. The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino has planned to create a new virtual reality experience featuring zombies. The new experience will be located in a warehouse-sized facility and see gamers attempt to survive a zombie outbreak.

According to G3newswire, MGM Grand has signed a deal with Zero Latency, a developer of location-based virtual reality entertainment. On September 8th, the first multi-player free-roam virtual reality experience will launch inside the MGM’s new game lounge, LEVEL UP. The area provides enough space for eight individuals to roam around in an interactive digital universe. Players will physically move through the 2,000-square foot arena while working with others during challenges that are not for the faint of heart!

As far as game play goes, players can choose from three different gaming options, each lasting 30 minutes. In Zombie Survival, players are trapped in a zombie apocalypse situation. The undead are everywhere waiting to pounce. Players have their weapons and must work together to take out the zombies and rebuild safety barriers before they will be removed from the game by a rescue team.

Singularity is the second gaming option, in this experience players are located within a secret military research space station. Team members take on robots and killer drones while navigating the space station. The third game, Engineerium, is a puzzle style game. This option provides a fantasy world of sorts where players will see colorful creatures including flying whales. Players will have to solve problems that are physics-based as they move forward on floating platforms above the exotic planet.

The virtual reality experience is a one of a kind way in which to enjoy unique entertainment. Players are put in an open space with no barriers to their movement. Team members can then freely move about as they experience the virtual environment. Players lose themselves in the game as they wear wireless goggles and computers, not tethered to any technical devices. Players see each other as full-motion avatars and can easily stay in communication to plan and compete during game play.

Scott Sibella, COO and President of MGM Grand, commented on the new game by stating that MGM was looking to provide unique entertainment to the venue and found Zero Latency to be the perfect fit. Sibella pointed out that there is nothing like this in Las Vegas, Nevada and they are proud to be the first to roll out a ‘wow moment’ for visitors.

Iron Dog Studio deploys new “Adaptive Fast-play” feature

Iron Dog Studio, a brand within the UK-based 1X2 Network, recently announced the launch of an innovative new feature called, “Adaptive Fast-play.”

The intuitive fast-play feature tracks whether a player is trying to force the slot game to speed up, and then asks the user if they would like to play fast by default. According to the slots developer, tests show that with the new feature enabled, a user can play over 200% faster and can at any time, toggle it off or on.

Commenting on the “Adaptive Fast-play” feature, Commercial Director Kevin Reid, said, “Our AF feature allows customers the option to play our games at the speed they want, generating a greater tailored user experience from each game. Speeding up gameplay is obviously greater for the house, but most importantly allows players that want to strip back the game, the ability to do so. Our games are graphic and animation rich, but with features like these the player is really getting into what is also great about our titles. In our unique math and game play.”

Across the 1X2Network, the “Adaptive Fast-play” has already gone live across Iron Dog Studio’s entire 6-slot -soon to be 8- portfolio. Including recent launches on Pariplay, NYX and Betconstruct GAN.

The new feature can be sampled on Iron Dog Studio video slots including; Neon Jungle, which will be available on Sept 13; Cherry Blast, available now; and Treasure of Horus, also available now.

Earlier this month Pariplay Ltd., a gaming technology company based in the UK, announced a partnership with the 1X2 Network that will see the independent software company’s full range of content, including the brands Iron Dog Studio and 1X2gaming, made available to operators through Pariplay’s FUSION network.

That, on the heels of an earlier deal in July, where BetConstruct joined forces with 1X2 NETWORK to make available to its customers content including a variety of slots, table games and sports games, deployed fully in HTML5 for retail, desktop, tablet and mobile.
